You’ll see in this video that ZJ says sometimes what you see on the spool may not be what you get in your quilt when trying variegated thread. She says the turning the spool on end will often give you a better idea of what the thread will look like in a quilt. Spooling out loose thread in a puddle on your fabric is also a great idea for getting the best representation of what using variegated thread in any quilt will look like.

    I think it would have been easier to see the thread colors on a white /light grey background.
