Binding is the traditional method for finishing a quilt's outer edge. In most cases that binding is French fold binding that is classically applied to the front of the quilt and then turned toward the back. There is another method. Some quilters prefer to use the backing fabric as the binding, by simply rolling the backing toward the patchwork front and securing by machine.
