Half square triangles are one of my favorite and least favorite units to add to a quilt. I usually have them in every single design because they're really easy to work with. But that means you have to square them up at some point, which is kind of tedious. So when I'm scoring up a half square triangle, I like to pick a ruler that is a similar size to the half square triangle that I'm squaring up. But in addition to that, I want to have one that I can easily hold with at least one finger off of the ruler. So what I mean by that is that when I put my ruler on to line up on that half square triangle, and I'm going to be trimming away, I want to have one finger off the edge of the ruler and it kind of anchors the ruler and helps hold it. So it doesn't shift or move or wiggle in any way. Well, I'm coming around and I'm squaring this up. So if you find that when you are squaring up your half square triangles that your ruler tends to move or shift when you are putting it down on top of your half square triangle. Try keeping just your little pinky finger off of the edge and that's gonna hold it nice and secure. Nothing is gonna move all your half square triangles will come out perfect every single time.
