The Quilters Circle Podcast: Amanda Murphy

The National Quilters Circle Podcast text with a woman smiling

Amanda Murphy is a quilt and fabric designer whose style bridges the modern and traditional. She is a BERNINA Expert and Quilting and Longarm Spokesperson; in 2018 she designed both a quilt and a fabric line to commemorate BERNINA’s 125th Anniversary. Amanda is an international teacher, pattern designer, and fabric designer for Contempo of Benartex.

She designs quilting rulers for Brewer Sewing, embroidery and quilting collections for OESD, and has authored several books for C&T publishing, including the best-selling Organic Free-Motion Quilting Idea Book and Rulerwork Idea Book. Amanda enjoys every part of the quilting process, from choosing fabrics, to integrating piecing and appliqué techniques, to the quilting itself. The best part of her job is seeing people use her fabrics, books, and patterns to create their own works of art!

I have a Bernina Artista 185 and due to family emergencies, it got packed away. I am now bringing it out and it feels like an old fiend. Unfortunately it is out of date and there is no support. I am desperately trying to figure out how to use the embroidery computer. How to hook it up to my computer (i have a Windows 7 and a Windows 10); I just purchased a Tripp lite Keyspan 9 pin serial adapter (USB-A to Serial DB9 RS232 Adapter Cable - 3 ft. Keyspan, High-Speed (M/M), TAA. I have all the other cords (dongle?) that hooks up to the embroidery machine and the computer that came with the embroidery CD (I believe it is a Version 3). I would love to chat with you to see what I can do to use this beloved machine which is in perfect condition. My name is Patti and my email is ps.reedcreeklabs@hotmail.com. Thank you so much for any help or direction you can give me. Patti
