Windmills and Pinwheels Quilt Block Challenge: Week 7

We may be nearing the end of the National Quilters Circle Quilt Block Challenge: Windmills and Pinwheels, but we aren’t slowing down! It’s time to make block six! Over the course of eight weeks we will be making the Windmills and Pinwheels pattern designed by Toby Lischko of Gateway Quilts and Stuff.

The Windmills and Pinwheels quilt is a fun blend of pieced points and curved applique. Made in a medallion style, you can either piece or applique a large center block and then build upon the center as you work your way through this eight- week challenge. For several of the blocks you will be given the choice of patterns- one a pieced block designed by Toby and one a slightly different pieced version designed by Ashley that incorporates applique. The applique design inspiration came from one of the main print fabrics, which features flowers. While we have provided applique templates for you to create the same designs, feel free to play around and create your own- we can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Looking for the fabric requirements? Find them here!

The finished quilt size for the large option is 86” x 86” and the small option is 58” x 58” Click the button below to download a PDF with instructions for your first block, or the center applique pattern to build around. And make sure to share your progress in the Quilt Block Challenge Facebook Group – we can’t wait to see everyone’s work!

I have followed your link above and week 7 does not open. Have I misread your instruction to use this link?”https://www.nationalquilterscircle.com/article/windmills-and-pinwheels-quilt-block-challenge-week-7/” Week Seven has not been bluelighted like the previous weeks so it does not open.

I think people may be confused since Week 7 challenge is really Block 6 (since Week 5 – 6 was Block 5 and the Center Construction).

The instructions stated there would be an appliqué pattern with week 7 instruction but I don’t see it, just instructions for block 6. When is the instruction for the next appliqué coming?

        Hi Sandra,

        Thank you for contacting us.

I mistakenly used “week” and “block” interchangeably as previous challenges have lined up that way before. It should be BLOCKS 2, 3, and 7 all have applique. We are on week 7, but only block 6. Next week, block 7 will be released along with the finishing instructions and block 7 applique.

If you have any other concerns, please contact us at 1-855-706-3538, or chat with us on our site.

Is week 7 suppose to be block 6 or block 7? I see that week 5-6 had block 5, so I am assuming that week 7 would have block 6, but not sure if I am missing a block from week 5-6 or not. I think that is what is confusing both Faye and I. Thank you for your help.

I have the link for week 7 but it is in black and nothing happens when I click on it. The other weeks on the list are in blue and I can still click on those. Do I need to wait for a while to get week 7 or is something going wrong?

The link you gave Faye Deagle still says block 6 – not 7. should something be renamed?

I also followed the link given to Faye. Using this link, when you try to download Week 7, it takes you right back to Block 6 where you were taken in the first place when you tapped to get to Block 7. It could be that the link was not changed to get to Block 7. Please advise how we can get to Block 7. Thank you.

I know that we are using cube 8 for this, but I have bought all my dies independently from accuquilt. It would be nice to have the item number (ex. 55027) so that we know which die to use. I don’t buy the cube as it will give me double dies in my stash of dies. Please help?

The Black bold print Week 7 does nothing, link-wise, but the blue Download button leads to Week 7, Block 6. The instructions, copied below, do nothing to let participants realize that “Download” is Week 7, because they still refer to a much earlier stage in the Challenge. When most of the incoming comments ask the same question, the responsibility rests on the writer of the instructions. Hopefully the next challenge finds a better way to communicate than mismatched week and block numbers.

Other people are able to access week 7 & 8 under announcements but I am not able to do so. Week 7 is Block 6 which I have long since completed. Why are some able to access Week 8 while others are not?

Week 8 block 7 comes out this Friday 8/16/19. I don’t know where they are finding it unless it could have been somehow released on Facebook by accident and then removed. I am not aware of that. Sorry.
