I have never made a quilt but have always wanted to. I have made baby blankets and such. This looks so fun. I’m ready to pull out my fabrics from storage!

Thank you for the opportunity to try quilting. I don’t know if I can do this or not, it looks confusing to me. Can I still join The Challenge if I do it in applique?

Hi Lily. The Baskets and Bloom pattern is a beautiful design. When considering using the quilt as you go method there are some things to take into consideration. You can create the individual blocks and create rows that can be then quilted in a variety of methods, completing the quilting of that particular strip of the quilt. Then, create the next strip of blocks and quilting these as a unit. Repeat this process until all the rows are prepared. Then join the units into one piece. The individual blocks are constructed in such a way that they can not be “quilted as you go” during the piecing process. You could construct the individual block – layer it with batting and backing and then quilt the block. Remember to leave backing fabric extending beyond the quilt block, to be trimmed and used for joining blocks and/or sashing strips to join the blocks. I hope that this helps you as you decide on a method for creating your version of Baskets and Blooms.

Here is a video we have that covers “quilt as you go”.
