It’s time to gather your fabric and supplies for our latest quilt block challenge: Baskets and Blooms! This challenge features a quilt designed by Toby Lischko of Gateway Quilts and Stuff. This quilt can be made with solids or anything in your stash. There are 13 fabrics listed in the fabric requirements, but feel free to use as many fabrics as you want. The possibilities are endless!
This is a 7-part project with 18 blocks, three a week, and a week for the finishing instructions. Although it is designed with no border, there are fabric requirements and instructions if you want to include a border.
The finished quilt size is 51” x 68” without a border and 67” x 84” with an optional border.
Find the fabric requirements available for download below! And make sure to share your fabric choices in the Quilt Block Challenge Facebook Group – we can’t wait to see everyone’s work!

Can you do these blocks as quilt as you go?
Hi Lily. The Baskets and Bloom pattern is a beautiful design. When considering using the quilt as you go method there are some things to take into consideration. You can create the individual blocks and create rows that can be then quilted in a variety of methods, completing the quilting of that particular strip of the quilt. Then, create the next strip of blocks and quilting these as a unit. Repeat this process until all the rows are prepared. Then join the units into one piece. The individual blocks are constructed in such a way that they can not be “quilted as you go” during the piecing process. You could construct the individual block – layer it with batting and backing and then quilt the block. Remember to leave backing fabric extending beyond the quilt block, to be trimmed and used for joining blocks and/or sashing strips to join the blocks. I hope that this helps you as you decide on a method for creating your version of Baskets and Blooms.
Here is a video we have that covers “quilt as you go”.
